Age 81, of Harold, died May 4, 1998.  Born March 3, 1917 at Harold, the son of the late Kelly and Susie Hamilton Keathley. Survivors include his wife, Maude Story Keathley; five sons, Kelly, G.B., Robert, Truman and James Keathley; two daughters, Susie Poteet and Juanita Howell; one sister, Arzella Rogers. Burial is in the Keathley Family Cemetery at Harold, KY.

Sola Hall

Age 61, of Grethel, died April 30, 1998. Born April 30, 1937 at Honaker, the daughter of the late Charlie, and Mary Margaret Yates Hall. Survivors include her husband, Norman "Bob" Hall; two sons Larry D. Hall and Gary D. Hall; one daughter, Brenda G. Hamilton; two sisters Goldie Hall and Lillie Jones. Burial is in the Hall Cemetery at Grethel, KY.

Rollie B. Rowe

Age 51, of Willard, died May 2, 1998. Born Dec. 15, 1946 in Salyersville, the son of the late Charlie and Mattie Back Rowe. Survivors include his wife, Lacella Patrick Rowe; two sons, Chuck Rowe and Chad Rowe; one daughter, Regina Hicks; step-mother, Elida Rowe; three brothers, four sister. Burial is in the Greenwood Cemetery in Willard, Ohio.

Doris Reynolds Pinson

Age 76, of Ashland, formerly of Martin, died May 2, 1998. Born Feb. 17, 1922 at Martin, the daughter of the late William J. Reynolds and Rebecca Mayo Reynolds. She was preceded in death by husband Charles W. Pinson. Survivors include one brother, Ralph G. Reynolds; one sister, Alice Allen. Burial is in the Osborne Cemetery at Martin, KY.

Dessie Horn

Age 83, of Ligon, died May 5, 1998. Born Feb. 19, 1915 in Pike Co., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Martha Hall May. She was preceded in death by husband, Ballard Horn. Raney Hamilton Hunt

Age 90, of Harold, died may 4 1998. Born June 26, 1907 at Amba, the daughter of the late Jessie and Lizzie Salisbury Hamilton. She was preceded in death by husband Ballard Hunt. Survivors include six sons, Marvin, Dinald, Virgel, Emmitt, Ballard Eugene and Franklin Hunt; Five daughters, Margaret Tackett, Patricia Stevens, Dolly Williams, Nora Jean Ilka, Florine Gifford; one brother, Charley Hamilton. Age 83, of Martin, died May 4, 1998. Born July 6, 1914 d/o the late Benjamin Franklin and Darthola Johnson Hall. She was preceded in death b husband Dock Tackett. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery in Albion, MI.

Fred Jarrell

Age 78, of Banner, died May 3, 1998. Born Oct. 16, at Dana, he was the son of the late Sam and Polly Conn Jarrell. Survivors include wife, Mary Boyd Jarrell; one son, Leo Jarrell; three dau., Roberta Gross, Deborah Hall and Judy Boyd; one brother, Ambers Jarrell; one sister, Ellie Loftis. Frances Greer Martin

Age, 73, of Jonancy, died April 30, 1998. Born Dec. 17, 11924 in Pike Co. the dau. of the late Noah and Gertrude Tackett Newsome. She was preceded in death by husband Canton Martin. Burial was in the Newsome Memorial Cemetery at Robinson Creek.

Sam Sheperd

Age 82, of Saylers Branch, Hueysville, died May, 4, 1998. Born Mar. 25, 1916 at Caney Fork, Middle Creek, he was the son of the late Brice and Laura Ousley Shepherd. He was preceded in death by wife, Laura Vanderpool Shepard. Burial was in the Community Cemetery at Hueysville.

Age 53, of Melvin, died April 30, 1998. Born April 22, 1945 in Floyd Co. h was the son of the late Tilton and Ruby Ramey Jones. He is survived by wife, Christine Hall Jones. Burial was in the Buckingham Cemetery.

Hattie Fannin Williamson

Age 98, of Cow Creek, Allen, died May 1, 1998. Born April 17, 1900 in Martin County, she was the daughter of the late James Henry and Elizabeth Neeley Fannin. She was preceded in death by husband James Bascome Williamson.  Burial was in Davidson Memorial Gardens.

Charles Loy Stumbo, 56, of Martin, died May 5, 1998. Born March 26, 1942 at Red Fox, he was the son of the late Bill Stumbo and Vautie Adams Stumbo. Survivors include one son, Kevin; one brother, Harry Stumbo; and one sister, Heasteen Stumbo Mosley. Burial was at the Isaac Family Cemetery at Dinwood.

Mae Bolen Turner

Mae Bolen Turner, 79, of Wayland, died May 5, 1998. Born March 15, 1919 at Garrett, she was the daughter of the late French and Mattie Sizemore Bolen. Survivors include her husband, Graham Turner; two sons, John G., and William E, Turner; one daughter, Gloria Mae Collins; two brothers, Earl and Covet Bolen; six sisters, Sophia Vanderpool, Ethel Coburn, Olga Richmond, Kathleen Hofelich, Goldie Bailey, and Evalene Caudill; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Burial was at the Bolen cemetery at Rockfork at Garrett.

Walter Justice

Walter "Clyde" Justice, 82, of Harold, died May 4, 1998. Born July 17, 1915 in Pikeville, he was the son of the late Gilbert Justice and Stella Burchett Justice. Survivors include his wife, Roxie King Justice; two stepdaughters, Linda Bush and Glenda Hunt; one sister, Dorothy Scalf; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Burial was at Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.

Gladys Riddle Branham

Gladys Riddle Branham, 80, of Jonancy, died may 6, 1998. Born August 29, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Willie Riddle and Pearlie Johnson Riddle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Branham. Survivors include two sons, Ira Edsel and Randall Osborne; one brother  Bill Riddle; and five sisters, Shirley Deskins, Jacquine Mullins, Bessie Lowe, Hazel Damron, and Nettie Gibson. Age 85, of Letcher Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Neon, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at the Whitesburg ARH. Bom April 4, 1913, she was the daughter of the late L.P. Isaac and Ludema Hall Isaac. She was a retired nurse. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Lee. Survivors include one son, Hobert Lee Jr. of Madison, Indiana; one brother, Lee Isaac Jr. of Wheelwright; one sister, Gertie I. Burke of McRoberts; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were Sunday, May 10, at 2 p.m., at the R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home Chapel, with the Church of Christ ministers officiating. Elder James Albert Slone, 61, of Kite, died Saturday, April 9, 1998, at his residence, following an extended illness. Born April 23, 1937 at Hollybush (Knott County), he was the son of the late Maryland Slone and Emilie Tuttle Slone. He was a disabled miner and member of the Ivy Point Old Regular Baptist Church at Garner. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia D. Hicks Slone; five sons, James M. Slone of Mt. Sterling, Garland R. Slone, Joe Slone and Emery L. Slone, all of Topmost, and Ray Slone of Carrie; two daughters, Etta Mae Holland of Fisty and Carol S. Slone, all of Topmost; five brothers, Isom Slone, Steve Slone and Willie Slone, all of Topmost, Joe Slone of Garrett, and Bobby Ray Slone of Wayland; one sister, Anna Sue Gibson of Ligonnaire, Indiana; 29 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Age 54, of Mousie, died Saturday, May 9, I998, at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center, following a sudden illness. Born March 16, 1944 at Rome, Georgia, he was the son of the late Herbert and Lois Moore King. He was a former employee of Bartlett Tree Experts. Survivors include her husband, Diane Combs King; one son, Nicholas Wayne King of Mousie; one brother, Wayne King of Social Circle, Georgia; three sisters, Elaine Evans of Cumming, Georgia, Janice Sehmidthe of Covington, Georgia, and Freda Storey of Georgia. Age 77, of Ivel, died Monday, May 11, 1998, at Mountain Manor Nursing Home in Pikeville. Born April 16, 1921 at Ivel, she was the daughter of the late Morgan and May Stratton Layne. Survivors include her husband, T. J. Hall; one son, Tommy D. Hall of Ivel; two grandsons, Duran Hall of Mason, Ohio, and Larry Hall of Betsy Layne; one great-grandson, Nicholas Hall of Betsy Layne. Age 74, of Hindman, died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, following an extended illness. Born March 9, 1924 at Rockfork, Knott County, she was the daughter of the late Claude Handshoe and Molly Conley Handshoe. She was a member of the Rockfork Old Regular Baptist Church at Garrett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Triplett. Survivors include three sons, Tracy Triplett of Lima, Ohio, Charles Triplett of Bluffton, Ohio, and Clinton Triplett of Hindman; one daughter, Brenda Joyce Miller of Lima, Ohio; one brother, J. B. Conley of Garner; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Wednesday, May 13, at 11 a.m., at the Rockfork Old Regular Baptist Church at Garrett, with Jerry Manns, Earl Slone and John Priest officiating. Russell Robert Gallimore

Age 35, of Auxier, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Cabel-Huntington Hospital in West Virginia. Born April 23, 1963 in Chicago, he was the son of R.C. Gallimore and Mary Jane Gallimore. Survivors include his wife, Kim Gallimore; one daughter, Ashley Gallimore; two stepdaughters, Samantha Thompson and Caterina Cross; three brothers, Kenneth Bauers, Dennis Bauers and Carl David Baners; and one step-grandchild. Nancy Jean Lambert Hagans

Age 85, of Ashland, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at Wurtland Manor Nursing Home, following an extended illness. Born November 14, 1912 at Tomahawk, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rose Meek Lambert. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude P. Hagans, in 1991. She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Martin. Survivors include one son, Alan Hagans of Martin; two daughters, Eileen Slone of Burlington, Michigan, and Claudia Hayes of Ashland; 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren .Funeral services were Monday, May 11, at 1 p.m., at the Steen Funeral Home Ashland Chapel, with Rev. Mike Saunders officiating. Entombment was in the Rose Hill Mausoleum, under the direction of Steen Funeral Home in Ashland.

Harlos Hall

Age 65, of Elyria, Ohio, formerly of Floyd County, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Medina General Hospital from an apparent heart attack while attending church. He was born at Drift and lived in Lorain County, Ohio, for 34 years. He was formerly employed by the Ford Motor Company foundry in Brookpark, Ohio, for 35 years until his retirement in 1992. He was an ordained deacon of the Pleasant View Old Regular Baptist Church in Litchfield, Ohio, where he was a member for 18 years and a deacon 15 years. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Hall; sons, Tun Hall and Eldon Hall, both of Elyria, Ohio; daughters, Vanessa Martin and Sabrina Russell, both of Lorain, Ohio; brothers, Ivan Hall of Middleburg Heights, Ohio, Terry Hall of St. Louis, Missouri, and Charles Hall of St. Charles, Illinois; sisters, Lydia Rakosy of Brookpark, Ohio, Mary Yvonne Castle of Drift, Lorraine Daniels of Cleveland, Ohio, and Emma Jean Burton of Cullamn, Alabama; and one grandchild. Born April 23, 1944 at Harold, she was the daughter of Montana Layne Brooks of Harold and the late James Earl Brooks. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Homer, Michigan. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Harry Eugene Lafferty; one brother, Larry Brooks of Kingston, Tennessee; and one foster sister, Nina Howell of Grethel. Born March 9, 1930 at Myra, he was the son of the late Nelson and Francis Hall Mullins. He was a retired coal miner and member of the Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Prestonsburg. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Mitchell Mullins; two daughters, Mary Mandl of West Hill, California, and Brenda Hunter of Agoura, California; two brothers, Derwood Mullins of Amherst, Ohio, and Larry Mullins of Mansfield, Texas; five sisters, Mary Robinson of South Carolina, Ruth Hogston, Georgia, Nancy Holt of Elyria, Ohio, Juanita Elswick of Virgie, and Margaret Hawpe of Romulus, Michigan; and two grandchildren. Age, 72, of Drift, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a long illness. Born April I 1, 1928 at Topmost, he was the son of the late Jno Hall and Nancy Gibson Hall. He was a retired coal miner, formerly employed by the Stone Coal Mining Company, and a U.S. Air Corps, World War II veteran. Survivors include his wife, Cora Sue Martin Hall; five sons, Scotty Hall of Drift, Elmer Hall Jr. of Piqua, Ohio, Timmy Hall of Troy, Ohio, and Randy Hall and Rodney Hall, both of Michigan; one step-son, Steve Martin of Fayetteville, North Carolina; one daughter, Derlyze Britner of Richmond; one brother, Hargis Hall of McDowell; one sister, Aleece H. George Edward Barnette

George Edward Barnette, 69, of Martin, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, following a long illness. Born March 6, 1929 at Gate City, Virginia, he was the son of the late G.W. Barnette and Nannie Rhoton Barnette. He was a retired coal operator and businessman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Blair Barnette; four sons, Steven Barnette, George E. Barnette Jr. and Roger Dale Barnette, all of Martin, and Clinton Barnette of Thonotosassa. two daughters, Sue Onodaga, Michigan, and Belinda "Lynn" Dingus of Martin; one step-daughter, Barrie Lynn Johnson of Martin; one brother, Edman "Beaver' Barnette of Martin; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Oscar McCoy

Oscar McCoy, 88, of Brushy Road, Pike County, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at Mountain Manor Nursing Home. Born September 19, 1909 in Pike County, he was the son of the late Cordelia Keesee McCoy and Roscoe McCoy. He was a sawmill worker and grocery store owner for more than 26 years. Hc was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nanie Hunter McCoy. Survivors include two sons, Tracy McCoy and McKinley McCoy, both of Brushy; four daughters, Alice Clay of Prestonsburg, Dorothy Nichols of vermilion, Ohio, and Ruth Hackworth and Ella Francis, both of Brushy; one brother, Donnie McCoy of Dearborn, Michigan; one sister, Claudia Blackburn of Hardy; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Henry Gardner Smith Sr., 82, Formerly of Zion, Illinois, died March 19, 1998. Born September 7, 1915 at Garrett, he was the son of the late Benton and Bethana Smith. He is preceded in death by his wife, Emma. Survivors include two children, Henry Gardner Smith Jr., and Jenna Jensen; and one grandson and one great-grandson. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet memorial Park in Zion, Illinois.

Leonard Prater, 67, of Wellington, died may 13, 1998. Born May 16, 1930 in Kentucky, he was the son of the late Will R. and Sarah Prater. Anna M. Jenkins, 80, of Garrett, died may 14, 1998. Born November 23, 1917 in Morgan County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Garfield Jenkins and Mary Francis Marshall Jenkins. Survivors include two sons, Willie "Bill" Bentley, and Carlos Moore; four daughters, June Bentley Smith, Verda Craft, Brenda Pratt, and Rosa Chaffins; 12 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren. Elizabeth R. Martin, 82, of Wayland, died May 16, 1998. Born February 23, 1916 at Louisville, she was the daughter of the late G. Mack Robertson and Blanche Compton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto martin. Survivors include two sons, James E., and Mack W.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Burial was in the Martin Cemetery at Wayland.

Albert Lee "Buddy" Stricklin

Albert Lee "Buddy" Stricklin, 69, of East Point, died May 16, 1998. Born July 2, 1928 at Johns Creek, he was the son of the late Patrick "Pat" and Maggie Hatfield Stricklin. He is survived by his niece, Sandy Nickles. Burial was in the Richmond Memorial Cemetery in Prestonsburg.

Elsie "Coot" Johnson Dillon, 75, of Richmond, formerly of Hi Hat, died May 14, 1998. Born September 11, 1922 at Price, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Susie Moore Johnson. Ada Owens Adams, 95, of Middle Creek, Prestonsburg, died May 15, 1998. Born December 16, 1902 at Blue River, she was the daughter of the late James and Lulie Slone Owens. She was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Adams, and her daughter Roxie Lee Manuel. Billy Slone,58, of Constantine, Michigan, formerly of David, died May 16,1998. Born October 28, 1939 at David, he was the son of Ellis Slone of David and the late Lillie Shepherd Slone. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Linda F. Taylor Slone; one son, James Ellis Slone; two daughters, Pamela Manson, and Kimberly Evans; one stepdaughter, Dawn Taylor; one brother, Bobby Slone; three sisters, Josephine Muncy, Jolene Bradford, and Evelyn "Penny" Schrock; and four grandchildren. Muriel Lavonne Penton Harris

Muriel Lavonne Penton Harris, 71, of Thornton, Colorado, died May 13, 1998. Born February 22, 1927 at Algona, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Chester A. and Mary Carroll Penton. She was prededed in death by her husband, Calvin Clark Harris. Survivors include two sons, Joseph Melvin, and Arthur Clark Harris; three sisters, Jean Simons, Jo Erpelding, and maxine Mulligan; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Raymond Conn, 50, of Dwale, died May 13, 1998. Born January 29, 1948 at Martin, he was the son of the late Beverly and Maltie Samons Conn. Survivors include one son, Raymond Conn; one daughter, Betty Jean Conn; one brother, Ray Conn; and seven sisters, Boe Ouslely, Wanda Ratliff, Betty Conn, Lorieth Adkins, Mary Lou Hyden, Janice Hackworth, and Estella Ann Conn. Linzey Reece Young, 26, of Prestonsburg, died May 15, 1998. Born July 29, 1971 in Pike County, he was the son of Venice and Ruby Smith Young of Varney. Nicholas Ritchie

Nicholas Ritchie, 85, of Fisty, died May 14, 1998. Born on May 2, 1913 at Clear Creek, he was the son of the late Josh and Elizabeth Ritchie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucinda Ritchie. Lousina Hackworth

Lousina Hackworth, 85, of Youngstown, Ohio, died May 15, 1998. Born June 3, 1912 at Bonanza, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Workman Hackworth. Melvie Conley, 76, of Topmost, died May 18, 1998. Born February 15, 1922 at Garrett, she was the daughter of the late John Lawson and Dolly Turner Lawson. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Penny Gibson, and her husband, Hubert Conley. Kendrick Milford Blevins, 64, of Langley, died May 19, 1998. Born September 13, 1933 in Pike County, he was the son of the late Delmer Blevins and Webble Fransisco Blevins. Lyndall Erwin "Lee" Corbett

Age 54, of Wayland, died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg. Born June 24, 1943 in Princeton, Maine, he was the son of Grace Gertrude Butler Corbett of Princeton, Maine, and the late Harry Edward Corbett. He was an automobile technician for Music Carter Hughes. He was a member of the Wayland United Methodist Church and assistant chief of the Wayland Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Beverly Crawford Corbett; one son, Bryan Corbett of California; three daughters, Stacy Corbett Mercuri of Mentor, Ohio, and Melissa Corbett Goodwin and Michelle Corbett, both of Wayland; three brothers, Marshall Corbett of Strongville, Ohio, Jim Corbett of West Salem, Ohio, and Jerry Corbett of Ocala, Florida; one sister, Jean Tardy of Mars Hill, Maine; and two grandchildren. Joseph Hawley Tackett

Age 77, of Hi Hat, died Monday, May 25, 1998, at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. Born January 20, 1921 at Langley, he was the son of the late Rubin and Mary Tackett. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Pine Grove Southern Baptist Church and a u.s. Army, World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Elizabeth Bryant Tackett, and his second wife, Francis Johnson Tackett. She was a member of the Steele's Creek Regular Baptist Church at Wayland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Birt Nickles. Virgina A. "Sissie" Lyons Smith
