Age 84, of Banner, died September 24, 1997. Born March 17, 1913 at Dana, son of the late Keen and Polly Ann Conn Mulkey. Survivors include two sons, Clarance Mulkey, James Edward Mulkey; one brother, Leonard Mulkey ; Burial is in the Spears Family Cemetery at Banner.

Anna J. Hall

Age 87, of Marion, OH, formerly of Hi Hat, died September 23, 1997. Born July 25, 1910 at Hi Hat, daughter of the late James "Jim" and Margaret Newsome Jones. She was preceded in death by first husband, Dewey Hall, and second husband Benjamin F. Hall. Survivors include two sons, Carroll Gene Hall, Benjamin F. Hall IV; three daughters, Charlotte Emogene Dorton, Tillie Josephine Akers, June Christine Hackworth; two sisters, Martha Freno, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Meade. Burial is in the Newman Cemetery at Hi Hat, Ky.

Carole S. Goble

Age 55, of Belleville, MI, died September 12, 1997. Born March 26, 1942 in Floyd Co., daughters of the late James F. and Effie Hager Litz. Survivors include four children, LesMielta Globe, William D. Goble, Trisha Danielle Goble, Billena Rey Calvachi; one sister, Patricia Anne Salyers; three brothers, David Litz, Paul F. Litz, Jimmie Goble. Burial is in the Union-Udell Cemetery in Ypsilanti, MI.

Virginia May Crum

Age 91, of Huntington, West Virginia, died September 25, 1997. Born May 8, 1906, at Mullins, daughters of the late Jackson Weddington and Nora Layne Weddington. Survivors include one son, Kenneth Crum; one daughter, Ernestine Bartley. Burial is in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, Ky.

Everett T. Dotson

Age 82, of Prestonsburg, died September 28, 1997. Born June 3, 1915 in Prestonsburg, son of the late Amos and Dollie Marshall Dotson. He was preceded in death by wife, Pauline Barnes Dotson. Survivors include one son, John R. Dotson; three daughters, Darlene Honeycutt, Nadine Vance, Tamera Dotson-Miller; one brother, Ralph Dotson; three sister, Effie Miller, Lenora Greene, Fannie Burke. Burial is in the Dotson Family Cemetery at Middle Creek.

 Leata B. Weaver

Age 76, of Garrett, died September 18, 1997. Born March 23, 1921 at Rockford in Knott County, daughter of the late Cecil B. Boleyn and Susan Fitchpatrick Boleyn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Anthony Weaver; one son, Benjamin Lloyd "Chunkie" Weaver; five brothers, Henry Boleyn, Wayne Bolyen, Bruce Boleyn, Eugene Boleyn, Mark Boleyn. Burial is in the Boleyn Cemetery at Rockford.

Oma Ratliff

Age 67, of Elkhorn City, died September 29, 1997. Born March 1, 1930 in Pike County, daughter of the late Mack and Pink Ratliff. Survivors include her husband, Burla Ratliff ; one son, Eddie Lee Ratliff; four brothers, Lester Ratliff, Bill Ratliff, Don Ratliff, Gary Ratliff; one sister, Shirley Thacker. Willard "Bud" Newman

Age 65, of Beverton, Oregon, formerly of Hi Hat, died September 25, 1997, in Durham North Caroline. Born Jan. 1, 1933 at Weeksbury, son of the late Richard Ode and Pearlie Newman. Survivors include one son, Willard Hogan Newman III; one daughter, Elizabeth Trivette; one brother, Johnny Newman; three sisters, Gracie Newman, Alma Barber, Rosie Hall. Burial is in the Newman Cemetery at Hi Hat, Ky.

Charles Thornsbeary Jr.

Age 47, of Mousie, died September 28, 1997. Born August 2, 1950 at Garrett, son of the late Edgar and Lola Cox Thornsbeary. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Slone Thornsbeary; two daughters, Marcy Thornsbeary, Marlena Thornsbeary; one brother, Jim Thornsbeary; one sister, Janet Collett. Ira Harless

Age 90, of Prestonsburg, died September 25, 1997. Born July 20, 1907 at German, Ky., son, of the late James Garfield and Corda Pinion Harless. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lafferty Harless; six sons William T., Oakey C., Winston, James, Winfred D., Elmer; one brother, James Harless; two sisters Margie Wiseman, Egie Fields. Bobby Osborne

Age 62, Bluntstown, Fl., formerly of Tipp City, OH, died September 26, 1997. Born Nov. 25, 1934 at Bevinsville, son of the late Robert and Minnie Johnson Osborne. Survivors includes his wife, Nola Osborne; three daughters, Peggy Jo Mantis, Georgia Brown, Karen Fisher; two brothers, Ronnie Osborne, Victor Osborne; three sisters, Joann Shewsberry, Shirleen Whitt, Phillis Brown. Burial is in the Forest Hills Cemetery in Tipp City, Ohio.

Earl L. Case

Age 63, of New London, OH, died September 28, 1997. Born April 3, 1934 at Drift, son of the late L.B. and Cinthia Hunter Case. Age 54, of Cookeville, TN, formerly of Floyd County, died September 27, 1997. Born Octobers 26, 1942 in Floyd Co., daughter of the late Willard L. and Lucy Martin Lykens. She was preceded in death by husband, FredO'Bryan Jr. Survivors include one son, Jeff Blackmon; three daughters, Vicki Jennings, Leda Housewright, Teresa O'Bryan. George W. Bellamy

Age 75, of Weeksbury, died September 28, 1997. Born Feb. 22, 1932 at Drift, son of the late Charles D. and Myrtle L. Shannon Bellamy. He was preceded in death by wife, Pat Bellamy. Survivors include two sisters, Edna Mae Tackett, Jo Agnes Smith. Burial is in the Drift Cemetery.

Bess Hampton

Age 84, died September 22, 1997, formerly of Martin, Ky. Survivors include four sons, Tom, Steve, Jesse, Clyde; two daughters, Meg, Shelby. She was preceded in death by husband, Tom Hampton; son Martin R. Hampton; and infant son, Clifford Donald Hampton. Burial is in Silent Home Cemetery, Reynoldsburg, OH.

Thomas E. Wallen

Age 38, of Martin, died September 29, 1997. Born March 18, 1959 at Martin. Survivors include two daughters, Stacy Wallen, Tiffany Wallen; six brothers, Michael Wallen, Otis Wallen, Jack Wallen, Gilbert Wallen, Jim Wallen, James Wallen; one sister Shirley Ousley. Burial is in the Martin Cemetery at Martin.

Terry Lynn Miller

Age 34, of Maybee, MI, formerly of Topmost, died September 28, 1997. Born March 13, 1963 at McDowell, daughter of Phyllis Cook Slone Odom and the late Ishmal Slone. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Dennis Miller; two sons, Michael Slone, Kyle Miller; one brother, Todd Slone; one sister, Connie Click. Estill Gayheart

Age 84, of  Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Price, died Tuesday, October 7, 1997, at Crystal Care Nursing Home in Dayton, Ohio, following an extended illness. Born October 4, 1913 at McDowell, he was the son of the late Dingus and Rebecca Gayheart. He was a retired carpenter. Survivors include two sons, Ronald Lee Gayheart of Dayton, Ohio, and Robert Dingus Gayheart of Naples, Florida; two daughters, Carolyn Sue Judd of Sarasota, Florida, and Diana Lynn Williams of Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, Ted Gayheart of Arizona and Elisha Gayheart of Florida; four sisters, Ocie Gamble, Greta Gallagher and Madge Crocker, all of Florida, and Rhodina Singleton of Prospect; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 11, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home Chapel, with Chuck Hall and others officiating. Burial will be in the Gayheart Cemetery at Price

Lucinda E. Samons

Age 76, of Martin, died Wednesday, October 8, 1997, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin, following a long illness. Born October 10, 1920 at Allen, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Della Hughes Jarrell. She was a member of the Church of Christ on Arkansas Creek, Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Quinton Samons. Survivors include two sons, Manis Samons of Newberry, Florida, and Gregory Samons of Plainfield, Indiana; one daughter, Sharlene Burchett of Martin; one brother, Reginald Jarrell of Munith, Michigan; three sisters, Nell White of Munith, Michigan, Lily Smith of Delaware, Ohio, and Dorothy Bentley of Martin; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great- great- grandchild. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 11, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, with clergyman Ronnie Samons officiating. Burial will be in the Samons Family Cemetery at Martin

Tivis Lyon

Age 82, of Staffordsville, died Tuesday, October 7, 1997, at his residence. Born March 8, 1915 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Sherman Lyon and Lora Wallin. He was a retired oil field worker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Ross Lyon, on November 20, 1995. Survivors include four sons, Tivis Lyon Jr. of Staffordsville, Joe A. Lyon of Lexington, Russel Kerlin Lyon of Huntington, West Virginia, and Michael R. Lyon of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina; one daughter, Cara Lynn Inez Hall of Allen; two brothers, Conn Lyon of Sitka and Kerlie Lyon of Raceland, one sister, Beulah McKenzie of Ashland; 11 grand- children and six great-grandchildren. Nellie Marie Millward Nairn

Age 84, of Prestonsburg, died Tuesday, October 7, 1997, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, following a short illness. Born May 12, 1913 at Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ellen Carney Burke Millward. She was a member of St. Martha Catholic Church in Prestonsburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin W. Nairn, on April 24, 1977. Survivors include one daughter, Monnette Sturgill of East Point; three sons, Edward "Ted" Nairn of Prestonsburg, Martin Arthur Nairn of Phoenix, Arizona, and Thomas Millward Nairn of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Elaine Wurm of Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania, and Thelma Dodson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Richard Millward of Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania, and Edward "Ned" Millward of Everett, Pennsylvania; 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Georgia Frasure Tucker

Age 70, of Kemersville, North Carolina, died October 4, 1997, at her residence, following an extended illness. Born March 8, 1927 at McDowell, she was the daughter of the late James, Frasure and Susan Mosley Frasure. she served as postmaster of East McDowell for many years. Survivors include her husband, Richard Tucker; one daughter, Deborah M. Wells of Charlotte, North Carolina; one son, Samuel D. Meade of Charleston, South Carolina; one stepson, Trent Tucker of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; one sister, Lorraine F. Woods of Frankfort; one brother, Walter Frasure of Allen; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Monday, October 6, at 11 a.m., at the Vogler's Funeral Home in Kemersville, North Carolina.

Nola Jacobs

Age 61, of Pippa Passes, died Wednesday, October 8, 1997, at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, following an extended illness. Born August 4, 1936 in Knott County, she was the daughter of the late John and Havana Jacobs. Survivors include her husband, James Jacobs; her step-grandmother, Connie Slone Jacobs of Pippa Passes; four sons, Danny Jacobs of Cromwell, Indiana, and Billy Ray Jacobs, Benny Joe Jacobs and Lance Eddie Jacobs, all of Pippa Passes; six daughters, Catherine Hall of Fisty, and Lanice Ashley, Lolene Jacobs, Martha Gibson, Vicki Ashley and Shelia Jacobs, all of Pippa Passes; four brothers, Craner Jacobs, Denzil Jacobs, Steve Jacobs and Dean Jacobs, all of Pippa Passes; three sisters, Judy Jacobs of Pippa Passes, and Juanita Slone and Laurita Baker, both of Hindman; six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. Lawrence (Scotty) Scott

Age 72, of Martin, died October 11, 1997. Born July 25, 1925, in Wayland, son of the late Posey and Floea E. Lawson Scott. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Scott; three sons, George Scott, Bobby "Bo" Scott, Paul E. Justice; one daughter, Anna L. Campbell. Burial is in the Prater Cemetery at Prater Fork in Hueysville.

Tressie K. Carver

Age 75, of Printer, died October 13, 1997. Born Oct. 28, 1921, in West Virginia, daughter of the late Robert and Katherine Riffle Daylong. She was preceded in death by husband, Ed Carver. Survivors include one son, Jack Carver; one sister Mary Barrett. Burial is in the Halbert Cemetery at Printer.

Guy E. Brown

Age 31, of Garrett, died October 13, 1997. Born Dec. 13, 1965, in Martin, son of Edgel and Glenna Daniels Brown. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter; Kayla Shae Brown; one brother, Chris Brown; three sisters, Kathy Allen, Heather Brown, Kari Brown; maternal grandmother, Mary Daniels. Burial is in the Scott Cemetery at Garrett.

Herman M. Jones

Age 86, of Long Branch, died October 12, 1997. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Curry Jones; one daughter, Alice Jane Thompson; one sister, Margaret Lee Curry. Burial is in the Richmond Cemetery.

Age 90, died October 10, 1997. Born May 30, 1907, in Johnson Co., son of the late William B. and Callie J. Little. He is survived by wife, Bessie L. Age 73, of LaGrange, IN, formerly of Floyd Co., died October 9, 1997. Born Feb. 19, 1924, in Floyd Co., son of the late Joe and Carlena Slone Hughes. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Hicks Hughes; one sister, Dora Combs; one brother, Floyd Hughes; one son, Joe Hughes, three daughters, Lois Oakley, Penny Oakley, Diane Kimpel. Burial is in the Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange, IN.

Markus Lee Little

Age 19, of Weeksbury, died October 8, 1997. Born July 8, 1978, in Albion, MI, son of Gary and Brenda Nemore. In addition to his parents, survivors include his maternal grandparents, Jessie and Earl Nemore, Virginia Blanken, Paternal grandparent, Mary Jane Little; one brother, Gary Little Jr.; one sister, Jamie Lynn Little. Annie Newsome

Age 79, of Warsaw, IN, formerly of Grethel, died October 11, 1997. Dec. 3, 1917 in McDowell, daughter of the late Wayne and Margaret Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by husband, Jay Lee Newsome. Survivors include three sons, Clyde Newsome, Klinon Newsome, Arnold Newsome; six daughters, Philistine Mitchell, Madeline Mitchell, Neveline Blankenship, Charlene Hoover, Emma Grace Emery, Ruthie Tuttle; four brothers, Jay Hall, Merlin Hall, David Hall, Clifford; three sisters, Olive Hamilton, Sally Ellen Young, Lizzie Turner. Hannie Conley Ramey

Age 95, of Garrett, died October 6, 1997. Born Oct. 5, 1902, daughter of the late Al and Jane Hicks Conley. She was preceded in death by husband Sam Ramey. She is survived by her sons, John Ramey, Kennel Ramey, Turner Ramey, Ancil Ramey; one daughter, Ethel Sarka. Burial is in the Conley Cemetery at Garrett, Ky.

Age 32, of Pinetop, died October 14, 1997. Born Nov. 27, 1964, in Jenkins, son of Fred and Janice Saxton Hall. Besides his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, George and Toymae Holland Sexton; two sisters, Susan Michelle Jacobs, Jennifer Mullins. Okie Conn

Age 90, of Banner, died October 15, 1997. Born Oct. 29, 1906, in Floyd Co., the son of the late Frank and Catherine "Kitty" Rice Conn. He was preceded in death by wife, Jona Boyd Conn. Survivors include one son, Herman Conn; one daughter, Ruth Slone. Burial is in the Boyd Cemetery at Dana.

Age 59, of Pikeville, died October 14, 1997. Born April 28, 1938 in Floyd Co., son of the late Lassie Sisco and Sidney Cline. Age 84, of Salyersville, formerly of Pike Co., died October 14, 1997. Born March 31, 1913, in McDowell Co. West Virginia, the daughter of the late Cyrus & Cora Castle Fairchild. She was previously married to Cecil Burchard Clark, who preceded her in death. Survivors include four sons, Cecil Clark Jr. Phillip Ray Clark, John "Gary" Clark, James Benson Hayes; one daughter, Carol Ann Rice; two sisters, Margaret Borders, Oma Grandmason.
