Wayne "Bub" Griffith

Age 63, of Martin, died Oct. 17, 1998. Born Nov. 20, 1934 at Garrett, son of the late Wayne Cordell and Virginia Clay Criffith. Survivors include: wife, Irene Reffitt Griffith: tow sons, Ellis Eugene Griggith and Cordell Wayne Geiffith: two daughters, Tammy Rosella Horne, Melissa Ann Messer; Five brothers, Hershel, Paul, Cletis, James and Carlos; three sisters, Audrey Thomas, Doris Slone, Gloria Shepherd. Burial was at the Reffitt Cemetery at Martin.

Elmer Case

Age 61, of Printer, died Oct. 15, 1998. Born Nov. 12, 1936 at Printer, the son of the late Willie and Ethel Williams Case. Survivors include his wife, Pheba Kidd Case; one son, Eric Case; four brothers, Ray, Farley, Racey and Terry; five sisters, Shirley Hall, Betty Case, Shelby Iricks, Geraldine Case and Pose Edmonds. Burial was at the family Cemetery at Honaker, KY.

Bernard Phillip McKinney

Age 58, Of Minnie, died Oct. 15, 1998. Born Jan. 26, 1940 at Printer, the son of Artie Mullins McKinney and the late Wilson McKinney. Survivors include his mother; His wife, Fronie Tackett McKinney; two sons Phillp Dale and Marvin McKinney; Five brothers, Kenneth McKinney, Willard McKinney , James William McKinney, Harold Bowling, Charles Bowling; one sister, Anna Mae Perkins. Burial was at the Jeff Hunter Cemetery at Printer.

Larry Sanford Carroll

Age 54, of Pikeville, died Oct.19, 1998.  Born Jan. 2, 1944, the son of the late Roxie Gillispie Carroll and Richard Carroll. Survivors include his wife, Madelene Damron Carroll: five sons, Mike Alley, Tont Alley, Jimmy Alley, Billy Hall, Chris Hall, one daughter, Patricia Marshall; two brothers, Donnie Ray and Dale Carrol; three sisters, Lorene Salisbury, Debbie Iricks, Betty Alley.  Burial was at the family cemetery on Coon Branch Road.

Roland Jones

Age 65, of Printer, died Oct. 19, 1998. Born May 1, 1933 at Bevinsville, he was the son of the late Charlie and Charlotte "Lottie" Hatfield Jones.  Survivors include wife, Ellarie King Jones, tow sons, Rickie Darryl Jones, Gregory Alan Jines; one brother, Buck Jones; six sisters, Sylvania Newman, Virginia Johnson, Charlene Smallwood, Ocelene Cole, Wilma Cavins, Debra K. Johnson.  Burial was at the Charlie Jones Memorial Cemetery on Riley's Branch, Bevinville, KY.

Robert Waddles

Age 82, of Eastern, died Oct. 14, 1998. Born Nov. 10, 1915 at Mousie, he was the son of the late Will and Rosa Slone Waddles. He was preceded in death by wife, Sterling Turner Waddles. Survivors include two sons, Robert H. and William Bruce Waddles; one daughter, Tamara Hicks; two sisters, Edna Williams and Madge Merritt. Burial was in the Turner Cemetery at Eastern.

Hazel Risner Baldridge

Age 93, of Rock Island, Illinois, formerly of Floyd Co. died Oct. 12, 1998. Born Feb. 20, 1905 in Magoffin Co, she was the daughter of the late Larkin and Rhoda Patrick Risner. She was preceded in death by husband, Ernest Baldridge, in 1982. Survivors include two sons, Ernest Baldridge Jr. and Jack Baldridge; one daughter, Janet Nelson; one sister, Della Herald. Burial was in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Girvie Warrens Moore

Age 95, of Garrett, died October, 18, 1998. Born June 27, 1903, in Turkey Creek, the daughter of the late Whitt Warrens Jr. and Nancy Moore Warrens. She was preceded in death by husband Kendall Moore. Survivors include four sons, Ray Moore, Cletis Moore, Lester Moore, Curtis Moore; two daughters, Elmeta Hoover and Juanita Pigman. Burial was in the Moore Cemetery on Turkey Creek.

Lizzie Adkins

Age 84, of Pikeville, died Oct. 20, 1998. Born Dec. 2, 1913 in Pike County, she was the daughter of the late Minnie Stevens Iricks and William Iricks. She was preceded in death by husband , Lowell Adkins.  Survivors include one son, Donald Lee Adkins: four daughters, Laurel King, Helen Yoquelet, Joyce Campbell, Eulavene Edmonds; one sister, Sarah Alley; five half sisters, Jewell Stevens, Flo Buckley, Geraldine Freebody, Ethel Danials, Joetta Bayanes; one step-sister, Glenith Adkins; two half-brothers, Wayne Iricks, Paul William Iricks; one step brother, Charles Hall. Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, KY.

Marcus Slone

Age 64, of Pippa Passes, died Oct. 21, 1998. Born April 1, 1934 in Knott County, he was the son of the late Vansel and Meridith Slone. Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer Boggs; four brothers, Vansel Slone Jr., Arland "Kiddy" Slone, Willie Slone, Bethel Slone; three sisters, Phyllis Sparkman, Betty Huff, Pauline Huff.  Burial is in the  Isom Slone Cemetery at Pippa Passes, KY.

Billie Joan McCallister

Age 59, of Martin, died Oct. 20, 1998.  Born march 8, 1939 at Betsy Layne, she was the daughter of Willie Ray and Lucille Daniels Eden. In addition to her parents she is survived by one son, James Ernest McCallister Jr.; four daughters, Pamela Sheperd, Sylvia Meadows, Betty Borders, MAry Lucille Bailey; one brother, William ray Eden; three sisters, Sylvia Rigor, Phillis Hunter, Patsy Wiggins. Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, KY.

Ruby Terry Bates

Age 82, of Boonville, died Oct. 24, 1998. Born June 19, 1916 at Hindman, she was the daughter of the late Elza and Virgie Grigsby Terry. She was preceded in death by husband, John Bates. Survivors include one son, Dr. Larry Bates; two brother, Doug Terry and Joe Terry; two sister, Rhode Richie and Anna Faye Martin. Burial is in Davison Memorial gardens at Ivel.

Viola Napier

Age 77, of Dana, died Oct. 26, 1998. born April 10, 1921 at Hueysville, she was the daughter of the late Bud Handshoe and Rhoda Fitch Handshoe. She was preceded in death by husband Ed Napier. Survivors include one son, Bobby Hoover; one brother, Curt Handshoe; one sister, Clara Allen. Burial is in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.

Richard Elliott

Age 72, of Hunter, KY, died Oct. 21, 1998. Born Aug. 12, 1926, in Honaker, KY, the son of the late Green and Tona Yates Elliott. He was preceded in death by wife Elizabeth Emogene Skeans Elliott. Survivors include six daughters, Judy Parsons, Joan Gregory, Angela Bentley, Felicia Elliott, Melanie Elliott, Melissa Morley; two Garlin Elliott and Charlie Elliott; two sisters, Anna Meade and Phyllis Lawson. Burial was in the Meade Cemetery at Printer, KY.

Sybil Coleman Thacker

Age 57, of Prestonsburg, died Oct. 26, 1998. Born May 7, 1941 at Millard (Pike Co.), she was the daughter of the late Herless Coleman and Ruby Coleman Janney. Survivors include husband, Thomas E. Thacker; two sons, Rick and David Thacker; one daughter, Sandy Morris; four brother, Ted Coleman, Travis Coleman, Bill Coleman and Dean Coleman; two sister, Loretta Danielson and Judy Burris, Burial is in the Annie E. Young Mausoleum, Pike Co.

James Walker "Red" Hazelett

Age 71, of Prestonsburg, died Oct. 26, 1998. Born March 13, 1927, in Paintsville, the son of the late Thomas and Hanna Collinsworth Hazelett. He was preceded in death by wife, Ruth Daniels Hazelett. Survivors include one daughter, Pamela G. Hazelett; four brothers, Clyde, Thomas, Jr., Sam and John Hazelett; five sister, Ruth Centers, Mattie Wright, Julia Swartz, Sarah McFraley and Fannie Ehrman. Burial is in the Richmond Cemetery at Prestonsburg, KY.

Charlie "Moon" Mullins

Age 81, of Galveston, died Oct. 25, 1998. Born Aug. 15, 1917 in VA, he was the son of the late Gallie and Alpha Moore Mullins. He was preceded in death by wife Brookie Rogers Mullins. Survivors include four sons, Clifford, Milford, Roy and Timmy Mullins; two daughters, Patty Saunders and Ann Coleman; Burial was in the Robert Hall Cemetery at Galveston, KY.

Troy Lee Adams

Age 78, of Jackhorn, died Oct. 23, 1998. Born July 4, 1920 in Wise VA, he was the son of the late George and Polly Adams. He was preceded in death by wife Daisy Ray Adams. Survivors include four sons, Junior, Roy, Roger and Arthur Adams; four daughter, Kathy Charles, Irene Bentley, Geneva Bentley and Kay Pratt; three sisters, Lola Belle Sturgill, Alice Hensley and Pearl Mullins. Burial was in the Haven Rest Cemetery at Mayking.

Jim Branham

Age 76, of Corn Fork, died Oct. 22, 1998. Born March 26, 1922 in Prestonsburg, he was the son of the late John and Lou Stricklin Branham. He was preceded in death by wife, Normas Hunt Branham. Survivors include three son, Lloyd, Dallas and Charles Branham; four daughters, Shirley Sester, Peggy Centers, Minnie Lou Hamilton and Doris Hackworth; one sister, Nancy Raphael; tow step-brothers, Palmer Marshall and Aethur Marshall; one step-sister, Dorsha Conta. Buria was in the Branham Family Cemetery at Corn Fork.

Lenda Letteral

Age 93, of Flatwoods, died Oct. 23, 1998. Born Feb. 23, 1905, the daughter of the late Reece and Susan Wright Frasure. He is survived by one brother. Burial was in the Bellefonte Memorial Gardens at Flatwoods.

Willie J. Conn

Age 83, of Dana, died Oct. 22, 1998. Born May 27, 1915 at Dana, he was  the son of the late Hie and Virgie Howell Conn. He was preceded in death by wife Bertha Boyd Conn. Survivors include four sons, Donald Ray, Ranel, Wilford Eddie and Ronnie Conn; one daughter Betty R. Newsome; two brothers, Ed Conn and Banner Conn; five sisters, Norma Hall, Nicie Boyd, Allie Akers, Helene Cuenin and Frankie Conn. Burial was in the Conn Cemetery at Dana, KY.

Ethel Rowe

Age 89, of Calvert City, formerly of Floyd Co., died Oct 11, 1998. Born Dec. 16, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Aaron Burr and Mary mayo Flannery. Survivors include her husband Marvin Rowe; one son, James "Jim" Rowe; one daughter, Mary Ford; Burial was in the Marshall County Memory Gardens.

Age 66, Of Rockfork, Garrett, died Oct. 29, 199. Born June 14, 1932 in Knott Co. He was the son of the late Hop Cox and Violet Hunter Cox. Survivors include his wife, Anna Mayo Cox; one daughter, Shai Marie Cox; one sister, Edna Slone. Burial was in the Family Cemetery at Rockfork.

Radie Ramey

Age 63, of Hueysville, died Oct. 30, 1998, Born Oct. 30, 1934 at Handshoe, he was the son of the late John M. Ramey and Hattie Collins Ramey. Survivors include wife, Sylvia McKinney Ramey; Four sons, Clayton, Glen, James and Jeffrey Ramey; four daughters, Connie Handshoe, Neds Handshoe, Kathaleen Handshoe and Angie Riley; one sister, Herma Oxspring. Burial was in the Family Cemetery at Quicksand, Hueysville, KY.

Howard Hicks

Age 65, of Garrett, died Oct. 27, 1998. Born April 8, 1933 at Garrett, he was the son of Ida Hall Hicks Hunter and the late Buster Hicks. In addition to his mother he is survived by wife, Sadie Isaas Hicks; one son, Charles Wayne Hicks; one daughter, Cathryn Epling; three brothers, Arnold Lee, Billy Ray, Eddie Arnold Hicks; three sisters, Versa Mae Duncan, Mary Jane Wright and Betty Ann Hicks. Burial was in the family Cemetery at Stone Coal, Garrett, KY.

Merlin "Blackie" Goble

Age 78, of Auxier, died Oct. 27, 1998. Born Aug. 13, 1920 at Endicott, he was the son of the late Ollie and Belle Woods Goble. Survivors include wife, Mary Olga Walker Goble; one son, Bert Goble; three daughters, Mary Craft, Linda Rose, Christina Hamilrton; two brothers Zenith and Ricie Goble; four sisters, Audrey Garrett, Ada Jarrel, Iva Mae Buchanan and Opal Bailey. Burial was in the Goble-Cinder Cemetery at Auzier, KY.

Doris Evelyn Fitzpatrick

Age 53, of East Point, died Oct. 29, 1998. Born Feb. 11, 1945 at Martin, she was the daughter of the late William Rufus and Elizabeth Hurd McCoy. She was preceded in death by husband George Fitzpatrick. Survivors include two sons, Michael and John Fitzpatrick; one daughter, Georgette Hunt; three brothers, Jack, Clyde and Paul McCoy; Five sisters, Lucy Spencer, Mary Swick, May Spencer, Daisy Frazier, Anna Jo Sanney and Eleanor George. Burial was in the Fitzpatrice Family Cemetery at East Point.

She was preceded in death by husband Garfield Hamilton.
