Frank Hamilton

Age 79, of Orangeburg, SC, formerly of Grethel, died July 29, 1997. Born May 23, 1918 in Floyd Co., s/o Lawrence and Ivalee Roberts Hamilton. Age 81, of Harold, died August 3, 1997. Born Sept. 15, 1915 t Harold, daughter of the late Floyd and Lucy Perry Roberts. She was preceded in death by husband Dolye Salisbury. Virginia Scott

Age 67, of Pikeville, died August 1, 1997. Born March 25, 1930 in Pike County, the daughter of the late Francis Finley and Claude Lucas Edmonds. She was preceded in death by husband, John Garnie Scott. Survivors include two sons, Eugene "Buster" Edmonds, Bobby Dean Edmonds; one brother, Shirley Edmonds; one sister, Geneva Tibbs. Brenda C. Runyon

Rell "Peanut" Maynard Jr.

Age 77, of Wittenville formerly of Endicott, died August 1, 1997. Born April 24, 1920 in Johnson County, son of the late Rell and Nan Music Maynard. He was preceded in death y wife, Nannie Woods Maynard, on April 10, 1990. Survivors include one stepson, Johnny Spears; one stepdaughter, Alice Vanhoose. Burial is in the Spears Family Cemetery at Oil Spring, KY.

Delphia Ramey

Age 91, of Wheelwright, died August 3, 1997. Born Jan. 13, 1906 at Rockhouse in Pikeville Co., the daughter of the late Rans and Louisa Rowe. She was preceded in death by husband, Hursel Ramey. Harlan Shepherd

Bruce Jarrell

Age 63, of Millwood, died Tuesday, August 5, 1997, at the Twin Lake Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield, following a sudden illness. Born September 29, 1933 in Bevinsville, she was the daughter of Everett Hall of Bevinsville and the late Carrie Osborne Hall. In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Arthur Johnson; one son, Gregory Johnson of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Sharon E. Kemper of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, James Wesley Hall of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; five sisters, Lorraine Little of North Line, Michigan, Jeanette Ramey of Leitchfield, Barbara Joyce Harris of Columbus, Ohio, Emily Youngert of Lasalle, Michigan, and Joann West of Lambertville, Michigan; and three grandchildren. Age 61, of Lincoln Park, Michigan, formerly of Floyd County, died Sunday, August 3, 1997, at the St. Francis Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Born November 1, 1935 in Weeksbury, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Mary Honeycutt Wells. She was a former Sears and Roebuck employee. She Was a member of the Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church in Taylor, Michigan. Survivors include her husband, Bobby Blevins; one daughter, Tammy Eady of Kenosha, Wisconsin; and one grandchild. Funeral services will be Friday, August 8, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, with Belmont Johnson and Louie Ferrari officiating. Joseph Hampton

Age 74, of Long Fork of Virgie, died Wednesday, August 6, 1997, at his residence. Born December 5, 1922 at Weeksbury, he was the son of the late Pleas Hampton and Arlena Tackett Hampton. He was a United States veteran and member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Lee Hampton. Survivors include three sons, Ray Hampton and Charles Hampton, both of Virgie, and Dana Hampton at home; four daughters, Carol Mullins and Wanda Branham, both of Virgie, Faye Campbell of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Anita Hampton at home; one half-brother, Hassel Hampton of Detroit, Michigan; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Born December 3, 1923 in Knott County, she was the daughter of the late Monroe Wooten and Hester Tolson Wooten. Survivors include her husband, Woodrow Patrick; eight sons, A. C. Patrick, A. B. Helen Rampp Nordenhaug

Age 97, of Macon, Georgia, died Saturday, August 9, 1997. She was a native of Louisville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Josef Nordenhaug. During the 1930s, her husband was pastor of the Irene Cole Memorial Baptist Church in Prestonsburg. Survivors include one son, Theodore Nordenhaug of Macon, Georgia, and one daughter, Karin Nordenhaug Ciholas of Danville; four grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 13, at 2 p.m., at Snow's Memorial Chapel in Macon, Georgia. Burial will be in Columbia Gardens in Arlington, Virginia.

Pem Blackburn

Age 72, of Belfry, died Saturday, August 9, 1997, at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. Born December 29, 1924 in Martin County, he was the s/o the late Ben and Lucy Maynard Blackburn. He was a retired coal miner with Slater's Mining. He was a horse trainer and early mail carrier in Pikeville, Martin and Floyd counties. He was a member of the UMWA. Survivors include his wife, Mintie Nicholas Blackburn; two sons, George Carey Blackburn of Sierra Vista, Arizona, and LaGrand Parsons of Pinsonfork; one daughter, Pamela Blackburn of Stone; four brothers, Jobie Blackburn of Cottondale, Florida, Flem Blackburn of Citra, Florida, Maltia Blackburn of Ocala, Florida, and Harlan Blackburn of Avon Park, Florida; one sister, Lula Bell Gross of Raccoon; two grandchildren and one grand-grandchild. Born April 16, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Gene and Garnett Collins Hayden of Prestonsburg. He was a tractor- trailer driver for HG Transport. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Phyllis Yates Hayden; three sons, Michael Hayden, Nathan Hayden and Nicholas Hayden, all of Prestonsburg; one daughter, Erica Jeannine Hayden of Prestonsburg; one brother, Martin Lee Hayden of Prestonsburg; and four grandchildren. Willie "Bill" Tackett

Age 79, of Dorton, died Sunday, August 10, 1997, at his residence. Born January 12, 1918 at Weeksbury, he was the son of the late Lint Tackett and Annie Osborne Tackett. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Dorton Regular Baptist Church and the United Mine Workers of America. Born February 28, 1928 at Elwood, she was the daughter of the late Marion and Liddie Tackett Little. She was a member of the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church at Bypro. Survivors include four brothers, Jack Little of Virgie, and Butler Eugene Little, Willie Douglas Little and Charles Edward Little, all of Indianapolis, Indiana; and one sister, Goldie May Farmer of Wheelwright. Esther Stumbo Salisbury

Age 70, of McDowell, died Tuesday, August 19, 1997, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, following a short illness. Born May 21, 1927 at McDowell, she was the daughter of the late IGC and Ida Gibson Stumbo. She was a teacher's aide for the Floyd County Headstart Program for 30 years, and received her CDA degree through the head- start program. Survivors include one son, Festa Duane Salisbury of McDowell; two daughters, Saundra Salisbury Mutzner of Piqua, Ohio, and Carolyn Salisbury Martin of Drift; three sisters, Glenna Stumbo and Roberta Lewis, both of McDowell, and Anna Sue Warrix of Roanke, Indiana; and three grandchildren. Age 68, of Topmost, died Tuesday, August 19, 1997, at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital. Born May 3, 1929 at Dry Creek, he was the son of the late Dewey and Martha Fouls Cook. He was a disabled U.S. World War II veteran and a member of the D.A.V. No. 128 at Garrett. Age 48, of Binghampton, New York, died Friday, August 15, 1997, at his residence, following a sudden illness. He was born March 30,1949, the son of Zola Conley Meyers of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include two sons, Robert Conley and Jamie Conley, both of New Jersey; two sisters, Rosalinda Novy of Mary Esther, Florida, and Debbie Keating of San Antonio, Texas; and one brother, Jack L. Elder Luther M. Conn

Age 78, of Harold, died Tuesday, August 26, 1997, at his residence, following a long il/ness. Born December 4, 1918 at Harold, he was the son of the late Melvin and Virgie King Conn. Be was a retired coal miner and operated Conn Service Station at Harold for 29 years. He was a member of the Mother's Home Regular Baptist Church of Harold for 47 years; a minister of that church for 46 years; and a moderator of the church for 40 years. He was also a member of the UMWA Local #7685 in Harold for 21 years. He is survived by his wife, Norma Lea Wilburn Conn; two sons, Paul Corm and Noah B, Corm, both of Harold; one daughter, Bonnie Bailey of Harold; four grandchildren, one step-grandchild, two great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Ernest Collins

Age 86, of Catlettsburg, formerly of Martin, died Wednesday, August 27, 1997, at the Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grayson. He was born August 9, 1911, in Honaker, the son of the late Dan and Susie Gaybeart Collins. He was a retired engineer for the C&O Railroad and after retirement was a caretaker for C.E. Fannin Parks of Boyd County. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Martin and at Catlettsburg, and a member of the United Transportation Union of Engineers and Firemen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Halbert Collins. He is survived by one daughter, Brenda Campbell of Catlettsburg; one brother, O.A. Collins of Ashland; two sisters, Goldia Stamper of Ashland, and Flovia Harrison of St. Cloud, Florida; two grandchildren and one great-grand- child. Gary Wilson Shepherd

Age 56, of Dwale, died Tuesday, August 26, 1997, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg following a sudden illness. He was born March 26, 1941, in Floyd County, and was the son of Madge Cochran Shepherd of Prestonsburg and the late Wilce Shepherd. He was a veteran and lifetime member of VFW #5839 in Prestonsburg, and worked as chief of security for the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps in Prestonsburg. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Patricia DeRossett Shepherd; one son, Gary Clayton Shepherd of Findlay, Ohio; one stepson, Keith Douglas Webb II of Dwale; one brother, Chester Shepherd of Mt. Sterling; and one sister, Betty Wilson of Prestonsburg. Funeral services will be conducted today, Friday, August 29, at 2 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home Chapel with Kennith Lemaster and Gordon Fitch officiating.
