Age 63, of Beaver, died November 7, 1997. Born June 26, 1934, at Beaver, daughter of the late Hatler and Liddie Bentley Brown. She was preceded in death by husband, John B. Tackett, in 1991. Survivors include six sons, Ricky Tackett, Nicky Tackett, Gregory Tackett, Ken Tackett, Dana Tackett, Kevin Tackett; four daughters, Sandra Sue Johnson, Kim Hamilton, Sheila Hall, Charlotte; two brothers, Earl Brown, Donald Brown; five sisters, Berniece Brown, Becky Brown, Martha Walker, Geneva Henson, Wilma Cerullo. Burial is at the Tackett Cemetery at Beaver, KY.

Edythe Luxmore

Age 73, of Winchester, formerly of Martin, died November 8, 1997. Born Oct. 8, 1924, at Hi Hat, daughter of the late Robert Lee and Phena Hamilton Newsome. Survivors include husband, Charles E. Luxmore; two sons, Daryl Gale Luxmore, Charles E. Luxmore Jr.; three sisters Melpha Tackett, Jean Williamson, Ethel Fitzgerald. Burial is at Clarmont Memorial Gardens in Winchester, KY.

Billah Gay Campbell Deboard

Age 58, of Prestonsburg, died November 7, 1997. Born June 26, 1934, Floyd Co., at Beaver, Daughter of the Dixie Click Campbell and the late Hargis Campbell. In addition to her mother she is survived by husband, Kenneth Deboard; one son, Mark Deboard; one daughter, Valarie Deboard Blair; one brother, Henry Campbell; one halh-brother Mont Campbell; two sisters, Ora Allen, Lottie Fraley; two half-sisters, Etta Scott, Mima Jean Caudill. Burial is in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordville.

Astor Meade

Age 79, of Hager Hill, died November 5, 1997. Born June 8, 1918, in Ashland, son of the late Jim Meade and Flora Stumbo. Survivors include one son, Michael Waid Meade; four daughters, Bonnie Porter, Sharon Cross Sammons, Betty Cooke, Judy Manteuffel; one brother, Azie Meade. Burial is in the Meade Family Cemetery at Hager Hill, KY.

Monroe "Blackie" Cole

Age 69, of Martin, died November, 7, 1997. Born March 8, 1928, at Betsy Layne, son of the late Abram and Birdie Comptom Cole. Survivors include wife, Dixie "Gladys" Queen Cole; three sons, Elbert Cole, Gary Cole, Charles Cole; five daughters, Twila Frasure, Dorothy Brown, Sherry Fraley, Sharon Cole, Nancy Cole; three brothers, John Riley Cole, Jimmy Lee Cole, James Alan Cole; seven sister, Leora Owens, Sylvia Carter, Imogene Hawkins, Helen Mullins, Lucille Boyd, Judith Ann Shepherd, Phyllis Jean Adkins. Richard Boone Campbell

Age 35, of Prestonsburg, died October 27, 1997. Born May 18, 1962 in Prestonsburg, the son of Keith Campbell and Lolita Arnett Campbell. In addition to his parents, he is survived by stepmother, Aeileen Dotson Campbell; two brothers, Keith Dwayne Campbell, Joey Campbell; one sister, Tina Clark; two half-brothers Chuck Campbell, Chris Campbell; one half-sister, Denise Campbell. Burial is in the Arnett Cemetery in Prestonsburg, KY.

Shirley Osborne Jones

Age 52, of Vermillion, OH, died November 6, 1997. Born Sept. 19, 1945 at Leburn, daughter of Olive Thackerand the late Brucon Thacker. In addition to her mother she is survivied by one daughter, Christina Fleming; two sisters, Vivian Scutchfield, Shelby Combs; two brothers, Bristol Thacker, Rudy Thacker. Burial is in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Vermilion, OH.

Anna L. Moore

Age 58, of McDowell, died November 6, 1997. Born July 5, 1939 in  Johnson County, daughter of the late Earl and Martha Blankenship Branham. Survivors include her husband, Ray "Pay" Moore; three son, Benny Ray Moore, Kenny Dean Moore, Louie Moore; two brothers, Kenneth Butcher, Bobby Butcher; three sisters, Ollie Mae BoCook, Edna Johnson, Georgia "Kookie" Butcher. Burial is in the Greenbury Hall Cemetery at McDowell, KY.

Basil Hamptom

Age 82, of Virgie, died November 8, 1997. Born Aug. 24, 1915, son of the late Marlon Hampton and Allie Elswick. Survivors include five brothers; Hassell, Russell, Elmer, Lonnie, Edgar; four sisters, Lettie Pugh, Stella Rowe, Lottie Tackett, Hettie Kenny. Burial is in the Amil Little Memorial Cemetery at Virgie, KY.

Age 76, of Cassselberry Florida, Formerly of Martin, died October 24, 1997. The son of the late George D. and Liddie White Ryan. Survivors include wife, Beatrice Ryan; two daughters, names and address unknown; two brothers, Milton Ryan, Jack Rayn. Burial in National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.

Ina Fugate

Age 85, of Fisty, died November 11, 1997. Born October 21, 1912 in Perry Co., daughter of the late Samuel and Parlee Fugate Combs. She was preceded in death by husband Anderson Fugate. Survivors include three sons, Harold Gene Yeary, Hunter Yeary, Earl David Yeary; two daughters, Anita Stacy , Marlene Smith; one sister, Mallie Salley. Burial is in the Engle Cemetery on Trace Branch at Fisty.

June Wells Adams

Age 81, of Prestonsburg, died November 12, 1997. Born Jan. 28, 1916, at Van Lear, the daughter of the late Elijah and Effie Burchett Wells. She was preceded in death by husband, Frank Adams Sr. Survivors include two sons, Frank Adams, Ronald Adams; one daughter, Virginia Campbell. Burial is in the Richmond Cemetery in Prestonsburg, KY.

Bertha Conn

Age 79, of Dana, died November 11, 1997. Born Sept. 17, 1918, in Dana, the daughter of the late Bennie and Rosie Jarrell Boyd. Survivors include her husband, Williw J. Conn; four sons, Donald Ray Conn, Ranal Conn, Wolford Eddie Conn, Ronnie Conn; one daughter, Betty R. Newsome; one brother, Arley Boyd. Burial is in the Conn Cemetery at Dana, KY.

Anna Isaac

Age 100, of Prestonsburg, died November 11, 1997. Born June 12, 1897, in Weeksbury, daughter of the late John and Ida Hall Compton. She was preceded in death by husband, Merlin Isaac. Survivors include three daughters, Lassie Crisp, Opal Lafferty; one sister, Rebecca "Goody" Spurlock. Burial is in the May Cemetery at Martin, KY.

Edra M. "Pug" Pugh

Age 61, of Pikeville, did November 19, 1997. Born March 26, 1936, in Floyd Co., daughter of the late Roxie Boyd and Ambrose W. Meade. Survivors include two sons, Scott Earle Pugh, David Boyd Pugh; one brother, Donald Meade; six sisters, Beatrice Hall, Ruth Caldwell, Linda Susan Wiolson, Margaret Wilber, Billia Doris Gilliam, Anita Ann Farmer. Burial is in the Stevens Cemetery on Hurricane Creek.

Eunice M. Mitchell

Age 51, of Dwale, died November 18, 1997. Born Aug. 13, 1946, in Pery County, daughter of th late Homer Risby and Lona Miller Hall. Survivors include one daughter, Johnda Lafferty; two broters, Roy Risby, Roger Risby; four sisters, Maxine Carver, Alice Sommers, Kathy Mitchell, Tammy Risby. Burial is in the Newsome Cemetery, Mink Branch, Big Mud Creek, Craynor, KY.

Samuel Vaughan

Age 95, of East Point, died November, 19, 1997. Bon Sept 17, 1902, at Cliff, son of the late Van Buren and Cynthia May Vaughan. He was preceded in death by wife, Zelda Thomas Vaughan, on Dec. 4, 1992. Survivors include two sons, Billy Vaghan, Jack Vaughan; eight daughters, Betty Kirsch, Barbara Crider, Fayetta Meade, Doris K. Price, Brenda Lylens, Linda Pelphrey, Shirle Senters, Ella Louise Fletcher; one sister, Fannie Stucky. Burial is in the Richmond Memorial Cemetery in Prestonsburg.

Woodrow Hall

Age 74, of Wheelwright, died November 19, 1997. Born Dec. 9, 1922 in Knott Co, son of the late Monroe and Betsy Holbrook Hall. Survivors include wife, Alma Pippi Hall; one son, Woodrow Hall Jr.; one daughter, Linda Lou Hillebert; one sister, Maggie Hall. Burial is in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Arbela Township, MI.

Verlin Shores

Age 74, of West Liberty, formerly of Endicott, died November 19, 1997. Born March 18, 1923 at Clintwood, VA, son of the late Arthur and Peral Mullins Shores. He was preceded in death by wife Rissie Vanover Shores. Survivors include two daughter, Brenda Crider, Billie Joe Snyder; one brother, Aulden Shores; two sisters, Helen Rose, Mildred Wolf. Burial is in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, KY.

Draxie Hall Hopson

Age 92, of Mountain Manor Nursing Home, Prestonsburg, died Wednesday, November 19, 1997, at HRM, Prestonsburg. Born April 4, 1905 in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late James Emory Hall and Minda
Moore Hall. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Hopson. She was a member of the Auxier Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include four sons, Glenn E. Hopson of Thelma, Alex Webb Hopson of Omar, West Virginia, Jim Ray Hopson of Martinez, Georgia, and Palmer D. Hopson of Winchester; two daughters, Eileen Davis of Alexander and Opal June Toth of Willoughby, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and several great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Saturday, November 22, at 1 p.m., at Jones-
Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Bobby Joe Spencer officiating. Burial was in Richmond Cemetery in Prestonsburg.

Dannie Ray Isaacs

Age 59, of Louisville, formerly of Floyd County, died Wednesday, November 19, due to cancer. Born October 24, 1938 at Teaberry, he was the son of the late Arthur Isaacs and Dorothy Stewart Isaacs. He worked as a carpenter and steelworker. He was a U.S: marine veteran. Survivors include three children, Michael, Dannie Jr. and Rebecca, all of Florida, and Daniel of Louisville. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville.

Beatrice Hall

Age 76, of Wheelwright, died Saturday, November 22, 1997, at UK Medical Center in Lexington, following an extended illness. Born October 19, 1921 in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late Wid and Dolly Johnson Hall. Survivors include two sons, Virgil Hall of Wheelwright and Kenny Meade of Bevinsville; one
brother, Wid Hail Jr. of Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Rethal Meade of Bevinsville; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 25, at noon, at the Wheelwright Methodist
Church, with Bobby Isaac and ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the Hall Cemetery at Bevinsville.

Clive Akers Jr.

Clive Akers Jr., 54, of Emerson, New Jersey, died Sunday, November 16, 1997, in New Jersey. Born July 26, 1943 at Garrett, he was a son of the late Clive and Orpha Chaffins Akers. He was a Navy veteran having served 20 years, he was a member of American Legion Post 206, Westwood Navy Fleet Reserve Association and the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife, Linda Akers; three daughters, Anna Lee Gibbs of Wellington, Laura Cornell, and Heather Akers of Emerson, New Jersey; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 19, at 10:00 a.m., at the Becker Funeral Home in Westwood, New Jersey. Burial was made in the George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, New Jersey.

Marie Osborne Johnson

Age 76, of Hi Hat. died Thursday, November 20, 1997, at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington. following an extended illness. Born March 24, 1921, in Buckingham, she was the daughter of th6 late Jefferson and Liney Ellen Mullins. She was a retired retail merchant and owner and operator of Johnson's Grocery at Hi Hat. She was a member of the Burton Pentecostal Church of Bypro, a member of the Eastern Star, Wheelwright, and a member of the Hi Hat Community Club. Survivors include her husband, Curtis Johnson; two sons, Marvin Glenn Johnson of Sumter, South Carolina and Donald Wayne Johnson of Winchester; two daughters, Anita Little of Bypro and Eloise Stiltner of Phyllis; two sisters, Audrey Hall of Bevinsville and Nawonie Conley of Lexington; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, November 23, at l 1:00 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel with clergyman Louis Sanlin officiating. Burial was made in the Buckingham Cemetery at Bevinsville.

Eva Mae Hazlette Estep

Eva Mae Hazlette Estep, 86, of Paintsville, died Wednesday, November 19, 1997, at Sayre Christian Village Nursing Home in Lexington. Born March 11, 1911 in Magoffin County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Hazlette and Hannah Collinsworth. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Estep. Survivors include three sons, George Estep and James Estep, both of Lexington, and David Estep of Van Lear; five brothers, John Hazlette and Sammie Hazlette, both of Ypsilanti, Michigan, James E. Hazlette of Prestonsburg, and Clyde Hazlette and Thomas Hazlette, both of Hager Hill; five sisters, Ruth Centers of Paintsville, Mattie Wright and Julie Swartz, both of Daytona Beach, Florida, Fannie Louise Ehman of Shelby, Ohio, and Sarah Hazlette of Ft. Wayne, Ohio; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Saturday, November 22, at 11 a.m., at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Dick Vanhoose and Manford Fannin officiating. Burial was in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.

Eugene Flannery

Eugene Flannery, 67, of Beaver, died Sunday, November 23, 1997, at his residence, following a brief illness. Born January 30, 1930 in Pike County, he was the son of Liza Wright Flannery of Beaver and the late Alvin Flannery. He was a retired coal miner and member of the U.M.W.A. Local No. 5899 at Wheelwright. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Dona Hall Flannery; three sons, Jimmy Flannery and Jerry Flannery, both of Harold, and Udale Flannery of Beaver; three daughters, Betty Compton of Allen, Linda Nunemaker of Dwale, and Sandy Tackett of Beaver; one sister, Linda Gall Tackett of Beaver; eight grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Funeral services were Tuesday, November 25, at the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church at Teaberry, with  the ministers of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.

Joe Berger

Joe Berger, 78, of Bevinsville, died Friday, November 21, 1997, at his residence, following an extended illness. Born October 12, 1919 in Warren, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joe and Ida Bergen He was a retired coal miner, a World War II veteran, a member of UMWA Local No. 5899 at Wheelwright, and baptized in the
Pentecostal Church. Survivors include his wife, Pearl E. Hall Berger; five sons, Charles Guy Berger, Donald Ray Berger, Eddie Dean Berger, all of Bevinsville, Joe David Berger of Virgie, and Jimmy Darrell Berger of Independence; two daughters, Karen Caudill of Bevinsville and Linda Reed of Pikeville; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Monday, November 24, at noon, at the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church, with Rev. Louis Ferrari officiating. Burial was in the Matthew Tackett Cemetery at Melvin.

Erlan Sturgill

Erlan Sturgill, 88, of Betsy Layne. died Sunday, November 23, 1997, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. Born November 11, 1909 at Toler, she was the daughter of the late B.F. and Maude Sturgill Roberts. She was a member of the Harold Church. She was preceded in dgath by her husband, Rufus Sturgill. Survivors include two sons, Gene Sturgill of Pikeville and Willie Guy Sturgill of Louisville; five daughters, Nadine Lingle, Lou Sturgill and Joyce Casale, all of Louisiville, Barbara Richardson of Betsy Layne, and Charlotte Justice of Pikeville; two brothers, Guy Roberts of Harold and Rell Roberts of Lexington; three sisters, Ruby Youn? of Prestonsburg, Lydia Roberts of Seattle, Washington, and Winnie Hume of Sarasota, Florida; 14 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. Funral services will be Wednesday, November 26, at 1 p.m., at the Harold Church of Christ, with the Evangelists James H. Harmon and Bennie Blankennship officiating. Burial will be in Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.

Leo Moore

Leo Moore, 40, of Wayland, died Wednesday, November 19, 1997, in an accident on Rt. 80, Martin. Born May 14, 1967 at Mousie, he was the son of Glennis Moore and Ethel Patrick Moore. He was disabled. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Madonna Thornsbury Moore; one son, Luke Moore of Wayland; four daughters, Penny Moore, Megan Moore, Rachel Moore and Samantha Moore, all of Wayland; three brothers, Billy Ray Moore of Hazard, Steven Moore of Knott County, and James Moore of Estill; and six sisters, Brenda Neal of Milford, Indiana, Jeanette Slone of Hindman, Wanda Greer of Allen, Linda Risner of Knott County, Patricia Moore of Knott County and Teresa Lynn Moore of Florida. Funeral services were Saturday, November 22, at 2 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Bailey Cemetery at Hueysville.

Age 60, of Orion MI, Formerly of Harold, died November 23, 1997. Born Dec. 10, 1936 at Harold, son of the late Herman and Allie Hamilton McKinney. Survivors include one son, John Thomas McKinney; one daughter, Gay Ann McKinney; one stepdaughter, Polly Tribble; six brothers, Ronnie, Clinton, Michael, Edgar, Terry and Danny McKinney; four sisters, Tina Hamilton, Connie Richardson, Teresa Stevens, Vanessa Martin. Burial is in the Hunt Family Cemetery at Harold, KY.
